Week 3 Preview

11:45 - Old Spice vs Retired Ballers

John Moody
Andrew Billups
The first place matchup was supposed to be the battle of Anthony Billups’s old team versus his new team but due to his vacation, he won’t be part of it. His brother, Andrew, however is more than capable of carrying the scoring load, he’s currently 8th in the league in scoring, and 1st in threes per game with 5. They do have a tough task  in holding down John Moody who is second in the league in scoring with just over 20 a game. The huge front line of Old Spice is killing the boards, they’ve accumulated 91 rebounds through 2 games. The defending champs have also added Jason Paderon, formerly of the Situation, making up the perimeter offense they lost in Rod Hamilton and Anthony Billups. The Retired Ballers also have Vinny Russo, who filled up the stat sheet in his league debut with a 10-7-3-3 game. The Retired Ballers have very balanced scoring so holding them down could be a tough task.

12:45 - Steven Seagal vs Chico's

Anthony Roxey
Vlad Kryshtal
Surprisingly absent from the league’s top 15 scorers is Henry Martinez, who was second in the league in scoring last year with over 22 points per game. With only 4 points in their win last week, it only means that the team is even more dangerous as they no longer require a quality game from Martinez in order to win. The big man duo of Anthony Roxey and Vlad Kryshtal have more than proven that they could hang with the bigs in the league, as they are second in the league in rebounding and along with Martinez, boast 3 in the top 8 rebounders in the league. They take on Chico’s who are desperate for a win. Led by Rich Ferrara’s 13 ppg, Jay Hirshy has proven he could be a pretty good #2 with 9.5 rebounds and 2 blocks per game. Other than that, they lack another scoring option, their second leading scorer is Claudio Perfetto who is 30th in the league with 7.5 ppg. If somebody can step up, Chico’s may be able to surprise people.

1:45 - House Team vs Trojan Men

Kevin LaTourette
The Trojans have had a complete turn-around season, due mainly to the addition of Kevin LaTourette and his 18 ppg average. Right behind him is James Parese with 17.5 points. They were able to hang with Old Spice for the whole game despite their lack of size mainly with the emergence of Paul Rodriguez, their second leading scorer from last year. The House team has the guards to bother the Trojans with pressure from Tom Downing who is first in the league in steals with 5 per game. Nelson Pizarro had a good all-around game with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists, and they should provide good matchups against the Trojan guards.

2:45- Knicks vs SiC

Jeremy Apostol
Jon Smith had a big debut with a 24 point, 6 rebound debut. Tyshon Adams should be matched up against Jeremy Apostol, who is looking to rebound from an off-week in which nobody from SiC scored over 6 points. The Knicks also have to contend with Jon Buchnik, the biggest player in the league, who had 12 rebounds and 2 big blocks in his first game. He’s a game changer as long as he is in the game, but of course at his size, stamina will be an issue. Jason Valera has good size as a backup, and those two may need to be the difference against a very dangerous Knicks team who were only a couple unlucky bounces away from beating a solid Situation team.

Week 2 Preview

11:30 - Old Spice vs Trojan Men

After an impressive week 1 victory  over Steven Seagal, the newly revamped Trojan Men have a true test in front of them in last year’s champs Old Spice.  It’s the two-headed monster of Kevin LaTourette and James Parese against MVP John Moody and the big front line of Old Spice who outrebounded The Situation last week 40-26. Can the smaller Trojan Men outgun the bigger Old Spice like nobody has done since SiC defeated Old Spice in their 2nd game? Dating back to last season nobody has proved they could stop either John Moody or James Parese so when the two are matched up it should make for an interesting show.

12:30 - The Situation vs The Knicks

The Situation fresh off a close loss to Old Spice takes on the Knicks who bring back last year’s MVP runner up Joe Mujalli, who is sure to have revenge on his mind after 2 close losses to the Situation. Gone are Jason Beltran and Vladimir Kryshtal, who went to Steven Seagal, in are John Smith Kevin Kroger and Tyshon Adams.  The Situation boasts a big front line, although this week it will be depleted as they will be without Matt Padilla and Jordan Paderon. Dave Naringi’s defense in the blocks could be a major factor in the game. Newcomer Daniel Auguste proved he belonged as he is 3rd in the league in scoring with 17 ppg, and he could assist defensive stopper Mark Clemmons in guarding Joe Mujalli.

1:30 - House Team vs Chico's

A battle of 2 newcomers, and we have little information since both teams had tough week 1 matchups. The House team should be reloaded as they add some missing pieces.  Nicholas Sanchez carried the scoring and rebounding load last week for the House Team and looks to continue it against Chico’s.  Chico’s Rich Ferrara helped settle the ball handling issues in the beginning of the game last week, but much of those troubles could have been attributed to the Retired Ballers defense. The House team proved they could score last week but can they stop yet another bigger team? Both teams are out to show the league that their week 1 blowout losses were a fluke, who will come out on top?

2:30- SiC vs Steven Seagal

SiC is coming off an impressive 25 point win over the House team and Steven Seagal is coming off of a close loss to the Trojan Men. Steven Seagal has twice proved that they could beat SiC, taking both contests last season, but SiC returned with a little more size this season, adding 6’5 center Jason Valera. Steven Seagal added defensive stopper Vlad Kryshtal and swingman Jason Beltran, completing a team they have competed with for years. Much of this game is going to come down to Jeremy Apostol and Henry Martinez who carry the statistical load for both of their teams. Apostol had a 8pt, 8 reb, 6 ast game in last week’s win, and Martinez had 14 pts, 11 reb, but never really looked comfortable against the big guards of the Trojan Men.
